Berry Oatmeal Bowl

What do you get when you mix antioxidants, probiotics and rich nutrients in a bowl??

This berrylicious oatmeal bowl makes any heart beat and smile any time. It’s no wonder I feel healthy and fully alive each time I eat this. I have decided to share this with you guys so you too can enjoy a nutritional berrylicious granola meal. Are you ready to enjoy a guilt-free sweet delicious hand-made berry oatmeal bowl?

DSC00985First… What I did to make it easier for preparing on a daily basis was… In a jar, I mixed a small canister of Old fashion Oatmeal with half of the Flaxseed Meal bag, half of the Raw Sliced Almonds bag and half of the Raw Pumpkin Seeds bag. Then, blended well… This way, all I have to do is take a cup from the jar to prep with hot water each time.  In the pictures below, you will notice how I only used half of the seeds and flaxseed meal bags. Most of these ingredients came from Trader Joe’s but you can also find them at your local supermarket.

Ingredients:

-Old Fashion Oatmeal (18- ounce canister)
-Large Glass Jar for mixing ingredients
-Flaxseed Meal (16oz bag)
-Raw Sliced Almonds (8oz bag)
-Raw Pumkin Seeds (16 oz bag)
-Chia Seeds (Optional) to use over berry mix
-Coconut flakes (Optional) to top over Chia Seeds 
- 4-6 raw Strawberries
-1 cup frozen Berries Mix (Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, cherries)
-1 Banana
-Lactose free Kefir
-Agave

Instructions:

“First… In a jar, mix a small canister of Old fashion Oatmeal with half of  each: Flaxseed Meal bag, Raw Sliced Almonds bag and Raw Pumpkin Seeds bag. Then blend well”… This way all you have to do is grab a cup of the oatmeal mixture.

  1. Boil 2 cups of water for 1 cup of Old fashion oatmeal
  2. Add 1 cup of Oatmeal mixture into the boiling water and simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes
  3. Add Agave (to your discretion) while simmering oatmeal mixture
  4. In a blender: mix 1 cup frozen berry mix, 1 banana, half cup lactose free Kefir and half cup water.
  5. Blend in a medium level for about 15 seconds keeping mixture thick and creamy.
  6. In a cereal bowl, add slow cooked oatmeal then pour berry mixture over it.
  7. Thin slice about 4-6 strawberries and place over berry mixture
  8. Add your favorite toppings (Chia Seeds, Coconut flakes etc…)
  9. Sit back and enjoy either for breakfast or desert.

 


Note that berries are antioxidants which help build a stronger immune system and oatmeal lowers cholesterol which builds a healthy heart. So making it part of your diet will improve your health and increase energy levels throughout your day. We must also keep in mind that each meal should include good fat, carbs, fiber and protein. It is why I have added raw sliced almonds and pumkin seeds for it’s great source of fat and protein.  Whole Ground Flaxseed Meal for added fiber and Omega-3 fats.  And lastly, because I am lactose intolerant I chose to use lactose free plain Kefir.

**Did you know Kefir is a good source of calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sodium, copper, molybdenum, manganese, and zinc? It is also a well reputable source of probiotics which help kill bacteria that cause infection in the body.

We will cover more on Kefir and how to make it in later post. For now, lets master and enjoy this wonderful Berry Oatmeal Bowl.
